Hedeby, Haithabu, den største by i Norden i vikingetiden.

Hedeby (Haithabu) – the largest Nordic town of the Viking Era, situated by the fjord Slien approximately 2 kilometres from the present-day town of Slesvig. Hedeby was an important trading centre, and the town also constituted a significant border to the south alongside the massive rampart Dannevirke. Hedeby came into existence in the 8th century, and was a busy town until the middle of the 11th century, when it was destroyed. Around 850, Ansgar was given permission to build the first Christian church in Denmark at this very location.
