Balders Drømme (eng. Balder’s Dreams; orig. Baldrs Draumar) is a 14 stanza Edda poem consisting of a dialogue between the disguised Odin and a dead ‘vølve’ (Norse fortune teller). Odin resuscitates her with bile in order to question her closely about the fate of Balder: Balder suffers from nightmares, and the ‘vølve’ can also reveal that a mead feast awaits him in Hel. Odin wants to know who will kill Balder, and the ‘vølve’ tells him that Hød(er) will be the one fatally wounding Balder with the “tall-tree” (the mistletoe).
