“IS”

Is – in Norse cosmology, ice is associated with the cold and foggy Niflheim. In prehistoric times, Niflheim meets its opposite; Muspelheim with its fire and heat. The two worlds meet in Ginnungagap (the great void), and thus life becomes possible. Cold and ice also characterize the home of the Norse giants; Jotunheim. Some giants are even called ’rimturser’. Rim (white frost) is cold foam from the muzzle of Nat’s horse Rimfakse.
