“UDGÅRDSLOKE”

Udgårdsloke was a Norse giant king, and we meet him in the myth where Thor, Loke and Tjalfe travel to Udgård. During the visit, Udgårdsloke challenges his guest to different competitions which Thor and his fellows keep losing.

Eventually, Udgårdsloke tells his guest how they have been taken in; Thor, Loke and Tjalfe have been competing with invincible phenomena such as the sea, the universal serpent (Midgårdsormen), old age, fire and thought; and here, even the gods have to admit defeat. The hot-headed Thor wants revenge and raises his magical hammer Mjølner causing Udgård to disappear as a delusion.
